And when I say knobbly... Dennis the Menace has got nothing on me!

I've had Dainese Trail Skins. They are half decent, but still don't stay put too well on my knobbly knees (also doesn't help I've got really skinny legs, but then typical cyclists quads!). I'd also like more protection these days.

I got given some Sweet Protection knee pads. They look and feel the business, but they just won't stay up. A particularly painful crash earlier today where the kneepad moved and fully exposed my knee to a rock has prompted me to shop for something more suited to my shape...

Recommendations please for knee pads with decent protection that you know work well with knobbly knees...

Endura singletrack lite are probably the best sleeve style for my knobbly knees.

I think maybe you need to visit the past and find some bulky oldschool pads with proper straps rather than the modern minimalist style? Sweet Protection Bliss Team, previous model Scott Grenade, things like that. Old 661 Rage or Fox... ambush I think it was? Basically some big chonky pads gathering dust in a bike shop because nobody wants that sort of pad any more.

Dainese Trail Skins Pros might work. They are bit tighter on lower part than first versions on Trail Skins and have extra non-adjustable flexible strap on top of calf, in addition to adjustable straps. For me the Pros were too tight on calves even after cutting the the extra straps. Size was based on their size and proved to be good fit on my quads.

In the spirit of classic STW victim blaming, can I just say that you need to get to the gym and focus on building pad-friendly legs...

Or take a skills course to stop crashing in the first place.

I don't for one moment believe this, but someone has to keep traditions going 🙂

I've just bought some 7iDP Sam Hill pads. They are very comfortable, the sleeve is long so goes along way up the thigh which I think helps them stay in place. Luckily haven't crashed in them yet so can't comment on protection but they feel pretty robust.

I was gonna say similar. Bigger pads with straps top and bottom. Like the old Fox Launch ones we all had 10 or 15 years ago.

I currently have the SP Bliss ones mentioned above and they are good.

Had similar issue with trail skins. They were ok for a while, but then started to get uncomfortable. The pros are better in that respsect, but not ideal. I am now using 100% terratec pro on cooler days and they've been excellent. Warmer days I have some oneal flow knee pads that I took a punt on because they were so cheap. They've got a longer sleeve on them, so seem to stay a bit better on my scrawny legs.

I found the Rapha sleeve ones uncomfortable as they were the right size around my thighs and calves but too small over my knee, so would push my kneecap down on each pedal stroke.

I've now got some Raceface Roams, as Northwind suggests they're 'proper' pads, but are more comfortable for me because the rigid pad stays off my knee but I can get the straps right for my thighs/calves. I'm sure they'd be much more protective than the sleeve type, plus you can take them off/on without removing shoes as they fully open up.

I have one very knobbly knee & have worn a lot of pads.

All time fave is Scott Grenade, had 2 sets. Heavy warm but so comfy.

Ion, K pact refuse to die, not the most comfy but rarely move. I have some very lightweight Ions that are great and don't move much.

Dianese Trail skin pro, comfy but only have small velcro fastening tabs, these catch on trousers and then need to be adjusted which is a pain, yet to wear them with shorts.

Dakine Slayer, weren't that comfy, didn't stay up and then split. Shame as all the other Dakine stuff I've had was excellent.
