[#3965317]

Having a new kitchen fitted by a local company (based in Exeter).
Have seen there previous work and lots of good feedback.
Started work last Monday, on the Tuesday they informed us the kitchen worktops were no longer available from their stockist but they could source them elsewhere and have them in this week. No option but to go with it.
When they left us last Wednesday we found one of the cabinets put up is not the one we ordered (too deep) they have put a door handle on the wrong side (does not match with the others). They also put the sink in the wrong way round, (we ordered a left hand drainer). They forgot to put in a bin cupboard as ordered.
So we were left with no sink, no gas hob (have put in pipes too proud against the wall for cooker to sit flush with units), no plumbing for washing machine, and a half finished kitchen.
We also had to get in British Gas, as they managed to **** up our bolier pressure.
They did offer to do a temporary stop gap kitchen, but we declined and decamped to the in-laws for the bank hol weekend.
Told yesterday worktops arrived and would be around today to finish.
Just had a text off wife to say the tops wont be in until next Tuesday when they will come to finish the job.
She said she "lost it" with them on the phone.
Obviously going to take this further but is there any kind of governing body or complaints procedure we can go down?
And i cant use the turbo in the garage cause its full of bits of kitchen and boxes!!

go for a ride outside.

Go to their head office and have a chat with a managing director. Maybe take the car and block in as many of their staff as possible, at about 5oclock should do it. people become suprisingly keen to please when all their staff are kicking off at them.

if it's an independent firm then you can only escalate to whoever owns it really.

All you can do is start makign noises abotu witholding money etc but it's risky if you're not prepared for them to walk away.

does sound like they've ****ed up - why start the job if they didn;t have all they needed.

Probably best to behave in a more mature way to get the issue resolved. Have you paid yet, I'd be expecting a hefty discount. Ask for better quality work tops at no extra cost to you or some other freebies.

Ombudsmen normally only come into play when you've exhausted all other avenues of complaint and are still not satisfied.

My advice would be to stick it to the management, aim high in terms of discount/extras for the 'major inconvenience' - we got some extras when John Lewis, of all people, f*cked up our kitchen fitting.

If you're getting nowhere, threaten the ombudsman then finally contact them.
