Doing the above race in a few months, for the folk who's done it before is there any particular campsites or places to stay near the ice factory ?

Thanks

I've camped at the youth hostel before (in the van, in the car park). Hot showers and a drying room (for the kayakers), all we needed.

They also have grass for camping.

Yup, there's a camping field at the hostel and it couldn't be better located, we'll ride past it at least once in the race.

But personally you couldn't pay me to camp for this one. Even if the weather's perfect it's generally a long wet day out in big hills, if the weather's bad it's a battle of attrition. So I've booked 2 nights in the Onich Hotel for £72, just a quick thrash along the awesome german road to get to the race. Still really miffed that I had to miss last year's race day due to injury

Hardy camping in November up there. As Northwind says, it could be very grim. I last raced it about 3 years ago and it was painfully cold overnight and during the race. Unless you’re a seasoned winter camper with the proper kit I would chance it. Last time I stayed in one of the hobbit holes at the hostel. Lovely and warm

Was just thinking about entering this and looking into accommodation. Most likely I'll be in a van 'camping' - Anyone used this place:  http://www.blackwaterhostel.co.uk

@groundskeeperwilly

I'm heading there in September for a running race. They've said it's £10 per night to park your van (and use the showers, etc).

@rugbydick - thank you for that info! I think it looks like a decent spot so might give it a go. Cheers.

I've done it 3 times and would definitely recommend the hostel, pods or getting a b&b. It gets a bit chilly down there in November and I've not had a completely dry weekend either.

Absolutely brilliant fun and I'd be doing it again this year if it didn't clash with something else. You'll have a blast!
