Looking at one of these, now I know the older ones suffered from cracking around the seat tube, are the updated frames better? Any recent failures?

Cheers

Steve

I had two failures with the older type of frame - the seat tube on the later type has a thicker seat tube and i have not had a problem. Great frame otherwise.

I have wwaswas old frame and I'm no whippet (13st). Great frame btw, plenty of seatpost insertion will help. If it did break, if buy another.

Almost the best HT frame I've had, reduced on CRC currently IIRC.

Is the 44mm head-tube new on the v2? Works components Angle Set ready (!). Such a pretty frame.

Newer ones have a thicker seat tube original was wafer thin. Bust mine and still got the warranty replacement mk2 in its box gathering dust. Lovely riding bike.

The older ones did indeed have a wafer thin seat tube, I have one. DMR resolved this by milling out the top part of the seat clamp, unfortunately you still had to clamp the post really tight, which meant that more force was being applied to the post than the seat tube.

I had to shim out the lower part of the clamp, [the half that attaches to the frame] to be able to clamp the post with a normal / reasonable amount of force. Hasn't cracked yet.

Lovely bike though, not 853 comfortable but much better than the 520 genesis it replaced, oversized down tube keeps it tight tracking for a steel frame, guess thats why they tried a silly slim seat tube to compensate for the stiffer down tube.
