Was to have been Kenda Small Block 8, after glowing reviews - but tried them for the first time this weekend, didn't like them at all.

So it is back to Plan A - Panaracer Fire XC Pro

Maxxis advantage front and rear.

They're the fastes rolling I had in the garage and I didn't want to buy more for one race.

Crossmark rear, Ardent front - tubeless if I can get round to it.

I like a fast rear and a grippy front.

I thought I'd bin the SB8's that came with my new 29er, but they are fab, so quick. Just tried some Conti Mountain Kings instead and while they do feel more planted they are slow!

That said you can't beat Fire XC Pro, used them for years before I went big of wheel.

Sadly not doing now; new rescue dog cant travel yet and cant be left for 10-12 hours. But I would have been using 29er crossmark front and rear!
