Thanks miketually, that's a great help, no excuses for not finishing now!
Just working out carbs required at each bag drop 😉
Thanks Miketually.
v. useful.
Thanks Miketually. Will print and laminate at work tomorrow
Lovely weather today in Northumberland. Just had a quick spin around Thrunton. 3rd of the climbing. 100 miles should be simples on forest roads. Is the parking at the main carpark above the visitors centre?
Good work Mike, thanks for that, see you on the start line
Anyone have or know of a GPS track or whatever, or a map of the route - I'd like a rough profile (so I can judge my devastating break away)
EDIT - this'll be about right I suppose - not that hilly......
Ooh better memorise some info so I might be able to answer puzzled racers questions. I'm off all day Friday now just a meeting to get out of the way, hopefully by 10 and then I'll be heading across.
boxelder, Garmin connect will have but it's currently under maintenance.
Ta. Found a map and profile that'll do. I need me maps me - following arrows/signs alone worries me.
The map is no use if it don't follow the route though. 😆
<geeky>
If you're hoping to just meet the cut offs, you need to average 8mph. I'm doing some sums for how many g of carbs I'll need at the start and in each drop bag.
Assuming 1g of carbs per lean kg of body mass per hour, you need to multiply the following numbers by your lean mass then start looking at the ingredients on your bags of sweeties and pork pies:
Start: 2.9
Bag 1: 3.4
Bag 2: 3.5
Bag 3: 3.1
</geeky>
😉
Turning generally unsettled and windy throughout Friday and the weekend, with some bright or sunny weather expected, but also spells of occasionally heavy rain and showers.
Getting better...
Pacelet to be done tomorrow. Food bought now to be divided up. Most stuff ready. Tomorrow the fun starts, carbo loading, at least that's my excuse.
Nice one Mike, thanks.. not long now!
Anyone know if there is chain oil at any of the stops, or should I put some in with one of the feed bags?
there was chain oil at newcasleton last year 65mile aprox .
Juicy Lubes are back again providing lube, it'll be at the 62 miles stop at Newcastleton.
Thanks
Forecast is looking a bit damp now:
http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/14days.asp?zipcode=ne48%201hg
Torrential mud-soaked downpour wetness fest!
I think it's still a bit early to get the detail of the band of rain that should be passing though, but the last place I'd trust would be Metcheck, they're notoriously random
yr.no are quite good but I still wouldn't put money on it turning out like they say
Expect the best, plan for the worst 🙂
Where are you getting the new times from, the K100 site still seems to show the same ones as last year?

You need to force the browser to load a fresh page
Ctrl+F5 for Chrome
ahh works on my phone ok, just seems to be IE playing up, will check the rest of the site now and see what's changed.
Cheers and good luck all.
IE is [I think] Shift+Refresh to force a reload from the server instead of the cache
It's not playing up, that's how it's meant to work
I'm in again this year - broke 6 ribs at 44 miles last year so 5 ribs or 45 miles is the target for me.
Couple of thoughts from me before the big day:

Maybe I am being stupid but what is the point of doing loads of food drops when there are loads of food stops? There are more than the PDS? Is there a cheese and beer stop as well?

Some people want to know exactly what they're going to get to eat. The drop bags aren't compulsory, just on offer if wanted. Free choice - the holy grail of C21.
Is there a cheese and beer stop as well?
If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find me, maybe you can have some of mine.
That said I have wine stocks to get rid of not beer and may not actually have any cheese. But there is beer at the end for all, free too. Don't forget your mug.

Hats off to you mate, that's a hell of a day.
Best of luck with it and if i see you at the finish I'll throw some money your way.
I looked at the target times above but don't you get slower as the day goes on? I would want to be/am faster at the start and then gradually get slower. Depends totally on the conditions and trails as well. 10 miles of bog fest is totally different to 10 miles of forest trails.
and may not actually have any cheese
I'll have some (by the 40 mile mark I will anyway......)

Have you recently escaped from a maximum security stockade?
Will you be in a somewhat corny looking disguise, smoking a cigar?
Will I get a reward from Colonel Decker if I turn you in?

Shhhh!

The dates wrong at the bottom (I hope)?

If they told us where the bog fests were, I'd have put them on. But they don't 🙂
Pacelets are a guide. Your mileage may vary. Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are.
I think they're more useful for those of us just hoping to meet the cut offs, to be honest, and I used mine more as a way of knowing how far till the next water, rather than actually pacing myself.
Yup something mixed up there as the Montane is on the Saturday.
Is there a map of the route yet?
Is there a map of the route yet?
There was no route map before the race last year or 2009, as far as I can remember.
Sorting out my drop bags now. God what a drama this nutrition business is!!!
re food stops - i used them to supplement my drop bags .Grab some tasty flapjack + 'nana and then filled my pockets with gels and nutty bars.
the newcastleton feed stop last year was utter temptation - temptation to stop and have a three course meal with coke and coffee - there was loads of tucker.
By time I got to the last food stop I couldn't eat - liquids only.
re -pacelets -

++1.if you have enough water no need to stop at certain water stations.
We did a tour of the Cheviots two weeks ago. I ate to many pies in Wooler and getting back up Wooler common was a bit tough. It must be better to stop a little bit for us mere motals?
The feed stops and drop bag mix is intelligent. More is better in this regard. Unlike a lot of European Marathons, you're not near anyone to really help you out at the Kielder 100. Having food in your pockets helps! And yes, the Newcastleton feed is amazing.
I'll rely on pockets until about halfway, and then drops and food stops from there.
