I was up in my local woods this morning and bumped into a group of lads (aged between 16 and 18).
They were incredibly polite, especially about my advanced age (45!), and me having ridden MTB for longer than they'd been alive (nearly double in fact) blew their minds somewhat.
They showed me some of the lines they'd put in recently. Some nice flowy, bermed trails, and a few well built jumps.
I in turn took them down a couple of my 'patented' nadgery technical descents. They seemed to enjoy them, though definitely not what they normally ride!
We then left on the best of terms, and promised to friend each other on Strava and meet up again for a ride another time.
Kids eh?
I've built quite a bit with some lads that age, it's great, you rub off on them and vice versa.
Lots of the crabbit auld sages on here would have you believe teenage bikers are all feral jump building vandals 😂
Aye, they have bags of enthusiasm and are quite happy to give it all a good bash!
you rub off on them and vice versa.
In the context of meeting teenagers in the woods, that is SO wrong....
But yeah, there are some great kids around. Usually the ones who have found a real interest and hobby that is a challenge and they want to progress at. I see it through my own kids and our friends kids with cycling, music, swimming, Scouting, gymnastics.
If society could find a way of giving more kids the chance to discover an interest and develop some skills, there may well be even fewer "problem" kids as the moaning fogies would consider them
Kids eh indeed...
