The wee lad needs some descent pedals for the MTB.

He is wee (9) so ideally after a pedal body that comes in a small size.

Crank brothers stamp 1 come in a small for £40 ish seems pretty good.

Much better out there to consider?

stamp's are pretty bad. you'll probably want something around 100x100mm

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/nukeproof-neutron-evo-flat-pedals/rp-prod122950 - no experience of the composite version but they're 98 x 95mm and I was eyeing them up for my kid's next bikes.

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/nukeproof-urchin-youth-flat-mountain-bike-pedals/rp-prod198676 - also these but more on the spendy side.

Hope and Chromag also do junior flat pedals but both towards the £100 mark.

Stamp 1's in size S are 100x100. Perfect for the job and there are some good deals (32.99€ on alltricks)
I'm pretty sure you could get a better price than 40£ in Poundland

Just picked up some nukeproof Urchin pedals. £45 on wiggle a few days ago. Basically a kids Horizon as far as I can see. Quick garage test suggest that they are grippier than the plastic early rider ones that they replaced! Size wise I think that they are spot on for kids feet, daughters 10k feet cover all the pins, wife's size 5 shoes on them look like my size 12s on DMR V11s.

We started with SDG slater for my daughter, then put some sharper pins in them (both options worked well for what she was doing). She now has the Nukeproof Urchins, combined with five tens, which are outstanding by virtue of the fact that foot contact or comfort is never thought about, they just grip. The only downside is that if she has an off they can be a bit spikey if she catches them exiting the bike. Amber is just coming up to 9 and goes pretty much as fast as she can down bumpy trails… 🙂

we got some flats from Earlyrider which have been pretty good so far but not used a lot so couldn't say how they last.

DMR V6s have been good on my son's bike- lasted a good couple of years with no maintenance (don't know if you CAN do any maintenance, though!)

My boys have been on Nukeproof "normal adult but not massive" plastic Neutron pedals since they were 8 or so.

They have been great grip wise and trouble free.

Get black ones and they stay looking good and you can move them from bike to bike with no colour clashes...

Both my kids on Crank Bros Stamp 1's in small. No problems with them. Older lad (10 but small for his age) rides rough trails / Rogate and likes to jump and he doesn't notice them until the inevitable but very occasional pedal slap.
