Tyred Jr (the elder) is currently riding an Islabikes Cnoc 16, having been through a Rothan and a Cnoc 14, and looking at him on it I don't think it'll be long before it becomes a clownbike on him.
The next one up in Islabikes is a 20" but I'm a bit unsure this time. He probably spends half his riding time in a concrete skatepark, but also enjoys singletrack. Trouble is, Carron Valley is close to us and a good place to take him, but the stony nature of a lot the surface batters his wee wrists, which makes me wonder about a sus fork.
Ideally I'd get him one bike that would do both park and trail and I suspect sus forks on wee bikes are worthless and maybe I'd be better looking at a rigid fork with a more suitable tyre for the singletrack.
Two bikes - a bmx as well as something more suited to mtb - seems mental for a 6 year old, but then again I don't exactly ride everything on one bike!
Anyone considered this type of conundrum?
You are right - sus forks on young kids bike not much use. Heavy too.
Suggest you stick with what you know and get Isla Beinn 20 with knobbies. Pump hard for park. Run soft for trail. Job done I reckon.
Well for the price of an Islabike 20" you could probably get 2 decent ones i.e one with a sus fork for CV and something else for tarmac.
My eldest has an Isalbike Cnoc and it's undeniably awesome but the newly inflated prices are making me think again for his next bike.
