Looking for a bike for my 8 year old and have come across a well priced local Scott scale 24.

Its an older one with 2x7 gearing. Does anyone know if the rear hub would take a standard cassette?

I've got bits taken of my bikes that could make it 1x10, which I'd prefer him to have if it'll fit on.

Cheers
Gary

Most older kids bikes use freewheels so no, you're not getting your 10 speed on there.
However, the wheels will almost certainly be boat anchors so see if there's room in the budget to rebuild with a freehub'ed hub and a Stan's crest rim and loose a good pound off the bike at the same time.
As a base build, the frames are light but everything else is cheap/heavy.
A little long in the chainstays and designed around a 24" fork. Going to 26" sus forks will make it slack.. (under 64deg @100mm iirc)
