[#13536317]

Looking at one of France/Switzerland/Austria for a road trip this summer with my kids.

They are 10 and 8, they have done a fair amount of riding (they are comfortable on all the blues at BPW etc) and we have decent bikes.

Looking for somewhere not too radical for first trip.

Preferably Motorhome friendly too

Anyone got any experience/suggestions

thanks in advance

Obvious one is Morzine/Les Gets has easy trails.

Samoens for beautiful camping and access to Les Carroz, Morillon and Les Gets. Swimming in the lake next to the camp site as well.

Durance Valley has lots of decent, quiet and compact options. Puy-st-vincent, Risoul, Vars, Abries, Briancon & Les Orres (less quiet) all have decent blues for the kids. If you hate your kids you could go to Montgenevre too but I'm not sure they could do anything to deserve that. The valley also has multiple rafting options, family via-ferrata, a high ropes place in Briancon and a couple of water parks.

Les Arcs. Mine were 9 and 11 first time they went and loved it. Neither particularly MTB skilled but have great fitness, blues/reds at Glentress type riders but prefer wheels on the ground (good for my nerves too…).

At the risk of labouring the point somewhat, he's 100% right.

(It's like that game where one sees how many threads one can diss MontG's ' bike park') 🥳

Les Orres.

Even a few of the red trails are kiddie friendly.

Quite a few blue tails and a green that's a hoot for everyone.

The trails in Avoriaz weee quite nice last year. We’re taking the (nearly) 8 year olds back with us this year to properly christen them on alpine riding.

Saalbach in Austria has a leaners/kids zone with a conveyor belt up the hill for them. It's one I'm hoping to try in a few years time.

Problem with Saalbach is that each lift only serves one or two trails. To ride everything that's a lot of pedaling up and down the valley.

I would also add that less than half of the 8 trails are kiddie friendly.

I've been recommended Fiss in Austria

Not been to Fiss/Serfaus.... Always drive further south to Italy.....

Paganella is another park you could consider. Pricey tickets, though.

I tend to boycott Tyrol/Austria because of their crappy rules regarding riding anything outside of the bike parks. Trails must be sanctioned and signposted that you can ride your bike on them, otherwise you can get into bother.

The Austrians have also now closed the Blindsee Trail to bikes.

And the beer in Austria is crap.

+1 for Les Orres, spent a day there last year,  the kids loved it so much we're going back in a few weeks and basing ourselves there fort a week.

The big blue from the very top is lovely, the boy has been told in no uncertain terms that this year he's coming on the reds with Daddy.

Follow Me..... The jumpy flow trail?

I nearly spannered myself on that a couple of weeks ago. Was getting into the grove with the jumps. Took off and went high only to discover the landing wasn't where I thought it was.

I might go back there in a week or so.
