.....was miserable but amazingly good. No pics due to weather, sorry!
Never hear much about Keider on here - a bit remote for most I suppose. The trails were right up my street - rocky and messy, rather than smooth and groomed (a-la-Glentress). They just feel much more natural - not as many features as GT perhaps, but it looks like there's some interesting North Shorey type stuff being built next to the car park, along with a jump park similar to GT, if somewhat smaller.
They're also building a new cycle hire place - hope they fit a bike wash as I really missed it today - car's a bit muddy ๐
Anyhoo, recommend it to anyone for a blast.
I was at Kielder last weekend with around 270 other riders taking part in the Avalanche Enduro, it was good fun and I like the trails there a lot.
Hope to return again sometime this summer.
I was riding up there the day before the enduro event, very enjoyable.
Especially the red singletrack downhill from the bottom of the doubletrack and the black downhill, some great drops and technical sections.
Has a nice remote feel too.
As someone based in Newcastle, Kielder is a bit out of the way. We do go but by the time you've driven there you could nearly be at Glentress or Innerleithen.
Yeah I really rate Kielder after a couple of days spent riding there last summer. The descents are great, and the other good thing is that all the trails are in a compact area so you can winch easily up the fire roads and then blast back down the singletrack, if that's your thing (It's mine!). Maximum descending for minimum effort ๐
Has anyone done the track over to Newcastleton? Is it open, is it singletrack or fireroad? Is it worth bothering with?
smogmonster - the new trail over to Newcastleton is not officially open but it is rideable. It's largely singletrack from skyspace as far as bloody bush, after that it's waymarked fire road to Newcastleton and back although you could climb back upto skyspace via the new and open lonesome pine trail on the way back which will give you a singletrack descent back to kielder. It's pretty good, go check it out, just don't expect GT type trails, kielder has a far more rough and ready natural feel to it.
nodrog2...
is there a trail map for the new red (the one with the 1km north shore)? Is this the one that will eventually give a singletrack to N'ton?
Might head across at the weekend for a look. Its actualy not that far from me in Alnwick area but takes for ever to get to.

Pretty sure there's a map available from Kielder Castle. AFAIK route's signposted anyway and starts from Lewisburn. It's called The Lonesome Pine, I do believe.
