Over the last two days I have gone through seven tubes which have all split where the valve attaches to the tube itself. Some of the tubes were different makes so that rules out a dodgy batch of tubes. I have replaced the rim tape which was knackered. The only thing missing is the little valve reducer thing that came with the wheels (X719) from merlin.
Does anyone know where I can get them.? Going to give Merlin a ring in the morning unless someone can point me in the direction of them in the meantime.
Unlikely to be the cause of your problem, sounds like the tyre moving on the rim and taking the tube with it. Check the bead of the tyre hasn't hardened, and put a dose of chalk dust or talc inside the tyre to prevent the tube sticking to it.
Try your local shop for the adapters, most Mavic rims come with them, but they're not always needed.
You could always try some tubes with "proper" MTB size valves (not the silly roadie ones) ๐
I had the same problem. Take a needle file and gently run round the valve hole. Use cloth rim tape. Talk you tubes and tyres. Switch to Schraeder. I did all of those and one of them sorted the problem.
I had the same problem and fixed it with this: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-Mavic-Mavic-Rim-Valve-Hole-Drilling-Converter-Insert--Schraeder-to-Presta-3335.htm

A bit like biopace chainrings, I've tried it and discounted it.
Get in.!
Removed the tyre and soaked it in some very hot water to get rid of any grease and shite.
Rubbed the offending hole with some emery cloth. Oh er.!
Applied some nice cloth rim tape.
Put it all back together with a fresh tube and a sprinkle of talc.
Went for a spin with the little'un and all is good now. Got more than two hundred yards without a puncture. Thanks all. ๐
i've wrecked a couple of tubes by just inflating them and pulling the valve out of the tube. Not really sure how: track pump hose on presta tube with collar done up in xm317 with a spesh nimbus. The only thing i can think is that the tyre pulls the tube away from the (fixed in the rim) valve as the whole thing inflates and the tyre seats. I tried one just now with only enough valve showing (still loose) to get the pump head on and it went up fine. Any thoughts?
