[#8086344]

..and the buyer wanted a bill of sale with my name and address on it, just in case he was stopped by the police while on it.

Is this normal or am I going to be the victim of some sort of scam?

It's probably more to prevent you scamming him.

Done similar and added sold as seen to prevent buyer coming back with issues 6 months later.

Well every time you buy a bike from a shop you get a receipt ๐Ÿ™‚

Proof of purchase innit.

I've done that for cars I've sold in the past, also ones that I've bought.

Doesn't seem odd that you'd do it with other items.

Sounds reasonable to me, especially if it's a nice bike!

It's probably nothing dodgy - if he wants to have it on his house/travel insurance he'll want proof of purchase. Also probably helps him out if the bike turned out to be stolen and the police get involved.

As above, put "sold as seen" and note down any pre-existing damage/faults so he can't pull a fast one later, but it's pretty standard with high value items - I'd want the same in his shoes.

Wouldn't buy or sell without a receipt stating item price and condition .
Best done on carbonated paper.

Reasonable request. Put something like "sold as seen" on it as per selling a car

i do this when i sell bikes, with sold as seen written on.
someone off here then pestered me for 6 month to try and get me to get a original bike shop receipt. even threatened to post on the forum that i had sold him a bike without proof that it was not stolen.

i told him to do so. he didnt email me again. he is still a forum regular.

I never put "sold as seen" but the description was pretty honest and comprehensive and he got a bargain. Always thought anything bought/sold was automatically "sold as seen". Never asked for or been asked for a receipt before, just seemed odd to me.
