[#5555686]

Based on some advice from an unnamed pro wheel builder I have done it by lacing them up but missing out every third spoke.

Not only are they ultra light but they feel really zingy and flex brilliantly round the berms at Swinley.

Will post pictures later

Saved loads of weight though, they are really light even using Deore hubs.

What the manufacturers don't want to tell you is the amount of redundancy built in.

By skipping every third spoke you save loads of weight both static and rotating and it's just as strong.

I'm sure it's not just as strong, it might be strong enough but removing spokes is always going to decrease strength.

Just over 16 stone which isn't really light but well within the limits

This. Interested in knowing the type of riding you subject them to and long-term reports more than how they look.

I can't see this ending well. Have you removed one of the legs from your chairs and tables too?

Maybe this will be the proof people need to show 29er wheels explode and kill you?

Obvious troll is obvious.

You know that regular wheels are built in multiples of 4 right?
How many spokes did you "leave" out? 10.67?

Or did you get some 36 holers just to rebuild as 24's?

That's over the limits for Hope Pro3s with 24 spokes, so hope the spokes and rims are strong!

My 24 pro3s were good until a dog side swipped me and then they folded easily.

Deore 2/3rds laced are stronger and because of the fewer spokes probably lighter

Again, not sure if trolling...

How do you know they're stronger?!

You must have used 36h hubs, less 1/3 spokes = 24h wheels. but using heavy parts. How will they weigh less than 24h wheels using lighter parts?

You will also only save the weight of 24 spokes and nipples, 80g or so. So no, they're not light. It's just a bit daft.

Troll. Good one though.

Of course it was, sorry chaps. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Was out at the Alpkit BSO in a quarry with Mr Lazarus himself and he wanted to know my ST username so I said I put a stupid post up to identify myself.

Nice to meet you Mr Junkyard ๐Ÿ˜†
