@tinas, they we’re interested, without a driver minimal chance of a payout. With only very minor injuries to me even less chance.

I have now got a driver, have spoken to next of kin, It is for them to pay up, or I can now look at making a claim.

Difficult thing getting older people to stop driving when they are no longer competent but this thread shows exactly why you should. You can get them to take an extended test to "prove they are still competent" & if they fail, that's it licence removed.

A work colleague was cycling home a couple of weeks ago, next thing she knows shes waking up on the pavement in lots of pain and wondering why there are bits of teeth in her mouth.

Seems she was hit from behind and was knocked several meters from her bike, broken arm, concussion few cuts and bruises, bike trashed (backwheel and stays bent)

No sign of driver, people who found her didnt see the accident

Shes really had to chase the police who seem to have done nothing, its really knocked her confidence, not just cycling but generally, especially as she has no memory of what actually happened.

sorry I know its not relevant to OP, but boiling my piss at the moment!

@kimbers and people wonder why cycling numbers are falling!

I know this is obvious, but are there any CCTV cameras in the area? I was lucky to have a driver present with a dashcam, without that i would have nothing.

@mrmo shes looking into cctv now, she had memory loss for a few days after the incident so its made things extra hard

She assumed the police would have looked into it, but they have just given her no info

or refer to their insurers.

Straight to the insurers, no hesitation.

Kimbers - That's awful, I hope your pal gets some answers and potentially some closure.

Has she considered going to the local paper to try to move things on?

he knew , didnt want to stop driving so drove off . he knew stopping would mean being made to hand in his licence and no more driving.
I simply refuse to beleive a driver can hit an adult on a bike and not notice, unless they were texting / asleep . this old dodderer was mid turn iirc so cannot have been asleep.
i reckon he wanted to keep on driving Edna and Doris to Waitrose as they rely on him to keep them in Rich Tea biscuits and tapioca pudding.

And we finally have a result. Spoken to their insurance company and have been made an offer. Enough to cover my costs plus a little bit.

Good news, but still frustrating how hard you have had to push.

Reject it. They always lowball on the first offer.
