just done a couple of hours after work.
never felt a change of temperature like that before.
minus 2 when i left work, minus 7 when i got home.
i have managed to ride all through the cold snap, but tonight was the worst, ice on the roads is terrible, and any side street is out of the question..................
dont you love it........... 8)
man up - thats positively balmy, as was GT's absolute zero today.
absolute zero at GT....really?
By international agreement, absolute zero is defined as precisely 0 K on the Kelvin scale and as ?273.15°
i'd have stayed in The Hub
reckon my gear cables woudl've froze @ 0K
RD - no but close enough. Minus 10 or thereabouts.
cold enough!
"i'd have stayed in The Hub "
At abs 0, you wouldn't have had the energy.
I feel your pain, actually I can still feel the pain in the tips of my fingers from todays ride, I thought they would drop off!
Only minus 3 here, but I know it was cold as I had to have a coffee rather than my usual beer at the final stop 😉
On the run home from Darwen Yesterday as the sun was going down it was Minus 5. Brilliant. I love this weather.
just a quick heads up for all you sub zero adventurers..........
5/10s, merino socks, flat pedals= the warmest feet in all my years of riding.
not even had a cold little toe....... 8)
big bloke pushing back -
i have 5.10's, flat pedals and sealskinz socks and my feet get cold above zero...
🙁
cos your feet sweat in sealskins, and then chill.
merino lets the moisture out.
sealskins are pish................fact.
i can see your point here. maybe i shall make a purchase.
never mind little toe, it was as cold as I can remember going through Guiseley at 6.30 this morning. Odd thing was 1 mile further on and going down hollins hill it was not at all cold weird. My winkle did not recover for ages after getting to work. I use the term "lion cold" for this type of weather just look down and you may see what I mean lions mane and all that. 😉
Done a 15 miler South Downs last night - ****ing freezing minus 3 at a guess, brill fun though trying to negotiate mud and stodge that had frozen etc.
Cant beat a frozen ride out but Sealskin socks are shite !
Ton, got a liny to 'merino socks' ?
Are they cycle socks / walking socks or what ??
Cheers

The message is getting through then! Thought you didn't get on with the 5:10s and were selling them? It just has to be flats in the snow and ice!
Same as ton - brilliant - wool walkers socks - when i took them off thet were wet through but i had no idea!
I use Defeet Wollie Boolie merino socks. Ace. Toasty feet all year round.
Sealskins, Overshoes, Base layer, 3/4 longs, jacket, silk sking glove liners = Toasty
Riding on flats = top advice. Rode on Sunday and had two 180 degree spins while climbing when torque from back wheel onto ice took bike out from under me while cl;ipped in. Result two badly brusied hips and one significantly bruised elbow.
Totally a new one to me. One of those spin outs was on what is normally a sandy rutted bridleway. Top layer was rock hard and like glass.
Lol Buzz! Physics joke!
If you're struggling with keeping the circulation going in the cold try Ginko Biloba tabs from your local health food/herbal remedy shop. They do work in promoting the blood circulation at the extremities although I did find if I took them too close to bedtime I started having the weirdest dreams that night!
