Just picked up a used Raleigh Performance (think Frog 69 etc) and looking to upgrade the tyres, as it currently sits on 26 1.5 unbranded tyres. These are ok on the road but little slippy on light family trails.

It would have originally come with Kenda Small Block 8, but I can only find wide version available.

Previously used Schwalbe Black Jack's and Schwalbe CX tyres, on other bikes, but worried 1.9 might be too wide for this junior style of hybrid bike.

Considered some Schwalbe land cruisers at 1.75 but had a little experience of them.

Any other recommendations?

Land Cruisers are excellent, fast on tarmac and gravel trails, good in the soft stuff. If you can get the “plus” version then very good puncture protection too! I used to fit them to police bikes.
Hope this helps.

Thank you - I can't see my daughter bombing down a black route anytime soon, so it's about finding a compromise and this is what attracted me to them. Thanks for confirming.

Second what wheels on fire says about Land Cruisers, certainly on the back. Perhaps something a little more knobbly on the front for off-road?

Continental Race Kings? That's what I've put on my 7 year old daughters bike.

We had a couple of pairs of CrossMark's on ours - fast XC tyres, but with a compound that actually gripped (unlike the Uber cheap tyres). Iirc, they were in 1.8 flavour.

I have a pair of Big Bens on my jump bike, got them from planetx in a silly sale a year or two back. Not great on wet grass, but superb for canal towpath, tarmac etc.
