[#4443208]

Did a jump the other day - broke my forks - wasn't hurt but could have been.

What is the STW view on jumping for trail riders. So.metimes I wonder if this is really what its all about.

How big a jump, and what forks?

Jumping is fun. Within your limits, or slightly over.

Well its about 2-3ft ramp (man made)but quite a sharp trajectory so the risk, as i found out is that if you hit it wrong (i.e. you are in the wrong position on the bike) you can loop over the top.

Went into the woods today to session easier ones for remedial training and confidence reboot!!!

We were warned about using that feature as a jump by the guy who built it!

I always find smaller jumps harder as the whole bike doesn't usually make it onto the take off, so it kinda bucks you around.

Paceman - shame you didn't tell me as I was getting ready to jump it! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

TimP - will look forward to seeing it done the correct way - with speed.

New forks hopefully arriving this week. Will order some faster legs and some bigger balls and should then be all set

It was definitely discussed, but I think you were on a 'no fear' mission that day though judging by your final exclamation of 'f@ck it' before hitting the log pile ๐Ÿ˜‰

_tom_, I agree, the said log pile isn't a great take-off platform at all, better off rolled over.

NB. a lump / log pile / root is only a jump if you 'jump' off it, other wise it's just another trail feature to roll over, manual, or ride around.

Watch this. It's conclusive proof that it's not about your bike, suspension set-up, components, or tyre choice! ๐Ÿ˜€

Some jumps are just badly thought out and can catch anyone out. Don't let it put you off - jumping is great fun. As a general rule - if the take-off is less than a bike length then a little caution is required. Hit it too fast and it could buck the back end up. Treat these types of jumps as obstacles and not launch pads and you'll be grand.

Darkcyan - heed these wise words I think.

Is it the new log roll straight after the witches' table (big log pile), just before the two doubles and tabletop?

It's very short and steep, hit it with sketchy technique and it will buck you!

I rode the big log pile about 2 weeks ago. Don't remember a sketch jump after? There were a few piles of logs to ride/jump off. Most stuff up there is quite sketchy/poorly built. Fun to ride though as you need to keeps your wits about you. And just go fast.

It's a new log pile/jump after the 'Witches Table' log pile. It's been there about a month now.

Has anyone any idea how many wheels Ashton went through in the making of that video? As for the OP, nah man, don't worry about it. Jumping is all good. Arse back, arms loose, let fly.

You need to head up wild park and practice there is a large kicker at the bottom of the rh line that is a good example of how speed is good.

I think I remember now. There was a pile I stopped at, looked at it puzzled for a bit, then just went fast. I quite like those trails. Fun for a few laps sketchy as hell riding those logs in the wet though. Too many memories of riding the dodgy old wp shore pre chickenwire.
