[Closed] Juddering forks on Specialized TriCross

I have been given a tricross to use as a commuter. It runs 700c wheels and cantilever brakes. Despite perfectly true rims and properly set up brakes it has horrendous fork judder when braking. It has 2 part forks that are an aluminium crown and carbon legs. It seems to be a known problem on the bikes, so what can i replace the forks with? It may get a bit of use touring, so cage bosses may also be a benefit.

Thanks

Spesh issue a different cable holder thingy for these, sorry I can't remember the correct name. but instead of the cable stop for the front brake being mounted on the headset spacers, it mounts through the mud guard hole in the forks.
You could also try mini V's.

is it canti's or v's?

If it's the former then new forks may well not help as it's to do with straddle cable and the length from the cable hanger below the stem.

This should be a sticky 🙂

It's because the brake hanger is attached at the top of the headtube. Replace with one attached to the fork crown (a la trailrat's post above) and they problem will go away.

Here's the tech -> http://velonews.competitor.com/2010/09/news/cyclocross/technical-qa-with-lennard-zinn-return-to-cross_101807

Not sure if this affects your model but there was a recall on certain tricross forks a while back.

While your at it , its worth toeing in your brake pads, mine are frog legs and are post mount as opposed to the allen bolt jobbies....I achieve it by sanding the pads a little so the front edge of the pad hits the rim first, its cured the judder on my dolan

I have one of those tektro hangers, yours for £6.50 posted if you like. Brand new, boxed. Sold bike before I got around to fitting it (same issue as you!).
