[#4494888]

The battery in my 4 year old Exposure Joystick has had it. Actually, it had had it by about the time it was 2 years old, but it's so bad now I need to do something about it. I bought it in 2008, but not sure what mk it is.

I suspect it will not make economic sense to send it back to Exposure, given the price/performance of cheap torches which people are using nowadays.

I was wondering how to open up a Joystick? I can't find anything on the web.... Anyone had any success here, or am I likely to destroy it getting it open!?

And what the battery type is, and if can they be sourced...

Thanks!

Thanks.. I'd prefer to replace it myself rather that be bothered with sending it off, but I've emailed them to find out some more.

Also email Exposure - their customer service is very good. Fixed a problem with mine FOC, worth a try and could cost no more than postage.

Unscrew the cap at the back end.
I sent mine back to Exposure last week when it was a bit dicky, cost me a few ££ postage, they checked and sent it back
They can sell you replacement or reconditioned batteries if you need.
I thought their service was excellent and would give them ago before you spank more £££ on something else

Exposure will do it but yes it is expensive, I can't remember what they quoted me but it was much more than a DX torch job. I got a replacement battery from Smudge for peanuts, which *should* have been a pretty straightforward swap but I pulled one of the tracks off the driver board when I was removing a wire, so that's that.

To open it just unscrew the end, then be very careful when you take it apart and remember what order everything is in.

I would like to use the body and battery of mine with a new LED, need to find the time to look into doing that.

OK, so the joystick is apart! The rear end did indeed just screw off by hand quite easily. mtbbatteries.co.uk are sending me a new battery.

It looks like the cap had some kind of thread sealant stuff in there. Any ideas on a substitute I could use when I reassemble to ensure it remaining waterproof?

try sone silicone sealant, as you may want to be able to take it apart again if needed. or vaseline?
