Aside from the extra inch, can anyone that has got one of these confirm if it is indeed better than previous models?

Yep I think its much better, although only had the Jpolin 4 for a couple of months I've had no problems and no play from the saddle (previous version I had LOTS of play which you could notice when ridding). I also went for the remote this time, and would recommend that over the lever version.

Yep, I'll confirm that there is much less play. Also slightly longer overall (may or may not be an issue for you - helped me out). Worth stripping and greasing straight away, mine was a bit mean on the grease front.
