1) Is the main bar (which the stem clamps to), meant to have some 'shaping' to it? Mine is round in the middle (where the stem goes) but then sort of flattens out as you move away from the centre, it looks pretty 'tapered' in profile, is this normal?

2) Do you need/can you get specific brake clamps to fit? I ask as I want to fit my Avid Ultimate v-brake levers, but their clamp is too small to fit around the bar (disc brake levers with a 'two part' clamp work OK, but not these v-brake ones ๐Ÿ™ )

The shaping is perfectly normal.

I used to run XTR V levers (which are not hinged) and had no problems. Surprised that Ultimates won't fit - are they not going around the bend of the bar or are they just way too small? I used to have some and prefer XTR in any case - they seem to hold up to prolonged use better too.

With the ultimate levers, you can completely unbolt the alu clamp section .. stretch it out a bit, slide that over the bars and into position - then squeeze tight & attach the rest of the lever..

Yep, can take the back clamp bit off and push it over the bar, but it's not deep/long enough to reach the bolt hole on the front of the clamp, by about 4-5mm or so I'd guess... might need to get something made up perhaps, or try out a pair of XTR levers (I think I have a set somewhere actually...)

Good to know the shaping is normal, kind of looks like the tube has been squashed, so was a little unsure if that was the way it should be or not!

as others have said, the flattening / shaping of the straight part is fine and part of the design (comfy too)

I have two sets of the original straighgt extension model...if your really stuck fitting your brake levers around the curved part, I geuss you could always just cut that bit off!!! (I think Jones himself might even suggest this as a an option)

'tis alright, I'm officially a moron... was trying (god knows why) to fit the brakes to the straight bar rather than the curved 'horns', I blame being tired for this act of idiocy ๐Ÿ˜ณ

All sorted this morning and good to go, thanks chaps ๐Ÿ˜€

Are those levers two part clamps? If not did you really splay them THAT much :oO

They work well on the extensions and are extremely comfortable.
