The tension pulley on my XT M751 has split, looking on the web and there seems to be a wide variety of bits available.
Are they specific to individual derailleurs, i.e could I just replace with a LX, as the XT are really expensive ?

If you replace both you should be fine, do just the one and you may find a mismatch between their widths, apparently some are narrower than others.

I was going to replace both anyway as the top one is wearing out...
I had a couple in my toolbox, but they appear to be slightly thicker than what I am currently using...

Any 11t jockey wheel from the shimano range will be ok Deore being cheapest.
