Why oh why do they show so many items on their site that they just don't have in stock, and probably never will again!

So f*cking annoying seeing loads of bargain forks, then clicking on them all and discovering they don't have any!

I'd say 10% of what is on their site is actually in stock. very poor.

they don't even know what they've got if you ring them up.
I asked about some stuff the other day "er, well we're showing..."
er... I didn't ask what you're showing. I asked what you've GOT.
GO and have a look. If you can't be bothered to do that then you won't be making a sale will you.

Perfect opportunity to complain about them.

Bought a Felt Virtue 2 from them about a year and a half ago. The frame cracked, so I sent it back to them. They took 6 weeks to sort out a new one. Never called us and we kept having to nag them. Then we finally go to pick up the replacement, and they hand me a Virtue 3 frame, with scratches on the top tube and marks on the down tube where they have stripped it out of a full bike. No compensation for phone calls and miles travelled to pick up/drop off frame, and when we complained, they claimed they had done us a big favour!

Very poor service. I will not be going back.

i bought a filter from a camera store on line and the 'in stock' logo is just a gif inserted on the page that has nothing linked to it, purely a lie to get you to order.

I gotta be honest on this one.

I took a 12 year old cracked swingarm to them on warranty and they sent it off to Marin free of charge and rang me 2 weeks later to tell me I had a replacement. when i realised i'd also cracked my front end the did just the same. they were happy and polite to do so, well the workshop was, the other people i spoke to acted as if they got docked a weeks wage if they said more than 3 words to me. one just pointed and said "workshop" then walked off. this was also a frame that i bought at a different shop so they got nothing out of it at all.

they have however been useless on many other things when i've been there

If you want a bigger laugh go and visit the shop in person

My sis lives nearby so I occasionally drop in for a sniff round
Almost always I am made to feel as though I have trodden in something smelly on the way in

The last time though took the biscuit
I tried to buy some expensive sunnies

The Saturday boy (nice lad) was charged with looking after me
When we got to the Oakley stand it was obvious all of the frames and lenses had been randomised
So it was impossible for the poor bloke to tell me which frame I was actually trying on with which lens

So when I found a frame and lens combo I liked and wanted to buy he couldnt actually tell me which they were and if he even had them in stock

This is kind of poor, especially as ££££ discounts are available mail order with free returns

Shame really
I usually support my local business
But with consistently bad service why should I support these guys?

Total crap house of a shop and service. Never have nothing they say they have in. I would not order from them online. I have paid more for stuff in the past than I could have got it for from them knowing buying from them will just be a ball ache. Chances are if you even pay for it and its says in stock, it wont be!

Even craper service if you go in the Rotherham shop in person. Its good to support Local shops, but I will change my eithos on this one.

I brought my new custom Cove Stiffee from the Sheffield branch last December and had a good experience. Even when Silverfish sent the wrong sized seat post they lent me one to keep me out riding until mine was sent in. Never used the online service tho as they are on my daily commute path.

seth-enslow666.

It was the Rotherham branch I was dealing with and most of the staff (not all) are terrible at customer service. Has anyone tried the Bike Shed in Huddersfield though? The guy in there is in another league when it comes to making you feel like an intruder.

Bought n orange P7 pro from them (picked up by a friend), got it home and the brakes weren't aligned, gears needed indexing, headset & stem bolts weren't done up, etc, etc.
Never again

We went into Bromley Bikes once and (admittably) we did look abit shabby, add a one legged greyhound and bingo! Two shop assistants followed us around the whole shop closely.

i'm still waiting from my order placed mid-January... took a full week to turn up by which time i was on holiday, so royal mail ended up returning it to them. that took nearly 2 months before they acknowledged the return. a month ago they emailed to say it had been re-posted to me and still nothing!!

completely and utterly useless. how on earth does a shop like that stay in business??!

Got to agree with that, don't like using the shop. Always feel as if I'm being sized up as a potential smash and grabber of the CK display.

Thats what I don't 'get' about these places. Customer service is king. One comment or bad bit of service early on and your gone. There are places that I wouldnt go near again with a barge-pole. Edinburgh bikes and Evans in Manchester get alot of my money even though CRC etc are lots cheaper.....and this is coming from a supposed-anti-lbs'er (which Im not).

At least JE James don't show the stuff in stock once you click on the item, but it's still a pain in the arse

ah - but even that's wrong.
If the info that you get when you click on it says it is / is not in stock, that bears no relation to whether they have actually got it in stock. Plus, they have stuff in the shop that isn't on the website at all.

Don't know what they're like for ordering on line, but for people in sheffield can I urge you to try langsett cycles on infirmary road - I've always had good service from them.
They haven't got the 4 week waiting list for workshop jobs that JE James have got as well.

hi all

My local shop (chesterfield) is basically the only bike shop in chesterfield, yes we have a halfords but it doesn't really count. so were screwed and they can do what they want.

Had a good one yesterday. Checked bikepimp to see who was cheapest for shimano cleats, J E James comes up £9.95 compared to £14.99 CRC. So I follow the link and lo and behold the price on their site is £19.95. To me thats blatant lying

needles to say CRC got my custom

Sheffield workshop guys have always been very good to me and my poorly Kona frame. They do have some good deals on some items but what's stocked can be a bit eccentric at times.

JE James at Sheffield & Chesterfield are my nearest bike shops and they are both utter c**p. Unless you can walk in & see what you want (& it's on offer), don't bother.

Wife's bike was classic JEJames - bought it from there only because it had 35% off (last years model, cosmetic scratches on frame etc.), but when it came out of their workshop after being 'checked', the seatpost was the wroung way round and it had got odd pedals on (one plastic, one metal) Oh, and the brakes needed adjusting.

There is one guy in the Sheffield workshop who is very good, but the rest don't seem to give a toss - have heard they're almost all on minimum wage tho (pay peanuts get monkeys?!)

nail on head.
I only ever go in there as they are sometimes ok just for that, but don't ever expect anything more than that.

another thing that has pissed me off about JE James:
when I phoned up there and asked if they had something they said "I'll just go and check that for yourself"
AAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHH!!!!!!! No! it's NOT "YOURSELF" !! The grammatically correct term is 'I'll just go and check that for YOU'
Why do people in companies insist on using the word 'yourself' because they think it sounds more polite and smarmy, when in fact it just makes them sound like an absolute TW4T!?

Useless...... How does a company so far behind the times continue to exist?

The website is pants - I've moved and it seems virtually impossible to change your address online.

My new registered addresscan't be delivered to. I rang up and tried to sort out a delivery address and they can't deliver to any other address except your credit card address "because we are an online company". I asked why, if Wiggle, Chain Reaction and just about every other company I deal with manage it they can't and apparently that's just the way it is.

Never mind, it probably saved me getting into the whole poor delivery element of this piss poor company.

They are absolutely useless. I ordered a few things and 1 item didn't turn up even though they'd charged my card. They then ignored the emails I sent them for the next month until I sent an email copied from trading standards informing them of my intention to take legal action. Got a phone call the next day "sorry about that, we didn't get any of your previous emails...." yeah, right.

I have a simple rule with JEJAMES, irrespective of what the website says, as it is wrong most of the time. Go into the shop and if they have it at the right price, buy it. Otherwise go elsewhere. Easy.

If you are not in a hurry, or they don't have it, GO ELSEWHERE.
Whatever you do, don't get them to order something!!!! It'll be like waiting for IWH to pay up 🙄

I love em, however I was prepared to wait 5 weeks for the delivery of some replacement spokes for my new Mavic SX's. But then i did get the spokes for £1.10 in the end which is about 1/3 of the list price.

But by and large if it aint on the shelf...

all the Sheff locals should go on a maintenance course then we'd not have to worry about how poor the shops are.

In my experience the Rotherham branch staff are terrible apart from one lad in the road section. Chesterfield and Sheffield are slightly better but not great. If I can avoid using them I do.

Just been in the Chesterfield branch and they were happy to spend half an hour sorting me out with replacements for all the bits ground away by the Crickhowell Merida on Sunday. Picked up an new XT cassette (8spd) for £12.

I guess it depends who you speak to and how busy they are.
