downhills with shocking brakes are 'interesting', levers pulled back to the bars and the speed increased! it was like 1993 again on my halfords ATB with the flexy plastic levers and 1997 with the incredibly narrow flat bars and stxrc canti brakes on wet rims n the P7
we are so lucky to have discs, (when they work!) you don't realise how much differenc they make until they are taken away
You need a pair of these to brake properly ๐

It is very easy to get misty eyed over your old bikes
In 94 I used to race a Steel S/works full rigid bike and it was fantastic got some reasonable results to, but I put it into retirement in about 98
Now 2009 and it is rebuilt Fast as fug it is (still) on smooth bits ie the road, but off road it hurts you get bounced all over the place. With a 130 stem and narrow bars it steers like a barge and shakes like hell on the downs that you cannot brake because you do not want to release your grip on the bars and the canti brakes do not work with 1 finger you need 3 fingers to slow down.
Retro is short for retrograde.
Sill a beautiful bike though but not for off road
