Its not a negative coil spring, the image in the article (and below, hopefully) shows its a negative airspring.
The coil spring acts as the first inch or so of travel, as so far as i can tell.

cleetonator has it right. Whether a new thing or not, I think its a good idea.
The manual only covers setup. Regarding servicing, "Only EXT or authorized Service points can perform these operations.". If the service manual and spares aren't available to the general public that's going to significantly increase the cost of ownership, and downtime. I wonder if the same applies to the rear shocks.

Is it a standard 1 1/8 steerer into a big crown with integrated 1 1/2 crown race seat?
My Storia shock cost less to service and was turned around quicker than if I'd have sent one of my fox shocks back to Fox.

The steerer tube is narrower than 1.5 and is pressed into an extension that fills out the diameter to 1.5.
Anyone ridden one yet? Starting to see bikes with them fitted now, wondering if I’ve been a good enough boy this year...
