I'd say no, I have a 3 year old Spec that's not exactly been looked after and it doesn't have anything like that on it.

What was the warranty on the frame at sale?

brake mount has had brake fluid on it and you`ve over tightened the bolt on the bottle boss.

no chance for warrentee unless they like you

Your first photo....is that the rear post mount? Looks to me like some DOT brake fluid has been left on that and knackered the paint. Even the alu underneath looks pretty badly corroded.
Do your brakes use DOT fluid.
Does look pretty bad around the bottle bosses though as well.

OK, no brake fluid as Ive got BB7s on there. ๐Ÿ˜€

yes its the rear post mount

Havnt touched the bottle bosses since I got it, never used them.

just check Kinesis warranty, only 1 year on paint and decals;

http://kinesisukwarranty.co.uk/terms.htm

Might be worth an email, as failure of the paint looks like it is going to cause major damage to the frame.

In that case I'd be getting in touch.

Although there terms on the warranty regarding paint seem a bit rubbish.
Could you get them under some kind of 'not fit for purpose' type SOGA rule.....

thing to remember is the aluminium will be fine for many years even if the paint does flake off

Damaged caused by salt from the roads? Where is the bike used the most road or offroad?

STW statement of the month already for me.

Can you cast your eyes over my bike please and with your special skills check the torques.

That is quite an amazing deduction from VH. Even more so when the OP says he's never used them!
I think VH has confused paint flaking with over tightening leading to distortion of the boss and tube, causing the paint to flake off.

I deduce that you sir have a Budgie and it has been licking road-salt off the brake boss and during this escapade its ickle beak has broke the surface of the paint causing it to corrode underneath.

Or it may have been fairies!

Nitromors plus wire wool. Then polish.

That red hub in the first pic looks a bit ropey too. Do you live at the seaside?

If it's been ridden on the roads through a couple of winters then I would say that is in good condition.
this is a Planet X about three of four year old

Traveled on the back of the car?
I wouldn't want to see that mess after thirty years. My mate suffers corrosion and I'm sure it's to do with high miles on the back of a car as in wet salty jet wash.

That's a bit harsh, could you not let him sit IN the car?

It's a steel bike. Steel rusts. It will get repainted at some point. Disappointing on such an expensive frame though, but doesn't spoil it for me. I don't exactly wrap it in cotton wool. It's a bike.
