Something out there that is just 'tape' but does the same job?

I've just gone tubeless on the roadie and the Stans 21mm tape was £9! That's taking the p!ss.

[this is tape to seal the spokes holes, not just standard rim tape, by the way]

I've done the ghetto method with success but on my DT 5.1 rims, with a UST tyre, it's just too tight and won't go on, so I want to run the tape instead.

With normal tyres on the DTs the ghetto works fine, but not with UST.

I use this stuff - 3M Strapping tape
http://www.directa.co.uk/site/scripts/product_browse.php?product_id=1949&category_id=836

The pic that Wiggle use is 3M Strapping tape, although I was told that that's not what they actually supply

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/No_Tubes_Stan%27s_Rim_Tape/5360042194/

I also use 20mm duct tape sometimes
In fact I'll use anything I can get for free 🙂

cheers uplink, I'll give that a try.

the Stans pic on wiggle is indeed wrong. The 21mm Stans tape is yellow.

duct tape for strength just wide enough to cover the holes then a wider electrical tape over it to make it airtight

just spotted this on ebay. Bought some so I'll see how it goes.

25mm tape - should do for MTB rims
item 350100424682

19mm tape - possible use for roadie rims
item 150363984489

[Ebay links don't seem to want to work....]

I just used Stans 44mm valve when I did the roadie wheels. Suspect I'll use the mtb version when I try the 5.1s. Either than or use the valve off an old tube...
