[Closed] is there a bike brand that no-one hates?

And I'm a little puzzled about why they still sell a bike named Madone.

I'd never buy a Specialized bike- I dislike the brand/they strike me as purely big business and their customer service sucks.

Well they replaced my damaged frame - unlike Trek....

Bontrager as a brand that no-one hates. (Albeit extinct? 😳 )

I'd love a modern Bontrager.

Rose and Kinesis owner here. You don't hear much of Rose in the UK but Fin (Rose UK) has always been great. Kinesis make lovely bikes.

Chumba bikes got some bad press before they folded.

After the Dave Hinde debacle cyclists in the know always raise an eyebrow whenever the name is mentioned.

First mention for Cannondale, for thinking outside the box in the search for better solutions. Hate Dorel for taking production out the USA, but keeping prices high. Also hate seeing Mongoose and Gt devalued by bso's bearing the badge in halfords.

Talking about Raleigh - I love me some old ones, kind of stately, well made, never exotic, RSP especially good - but then Notts went titsup - I stupidly bought an X1 for commutes, it was a dead log - literally hated it- so wrote them off. So have been a fan and a hater twrds same brand. Anyhow - yesterday I was shown their 2014 reincarnation 'Wayfarer' - a 6061 cruisery 3 speed - looks nice! Lightish, flat blade mudguards, unfussy, and I got a bit excited again. But it should be steel really, shouldn't it?

My Kinesis maxlight was an awesome frame! I ran it with a Pace RC39 and it was just over 10kg and took a fair amount of abuse.

Moots? OK they are not the most exciting bikes out there but they look lovely and the only negatives you ever hear are the price.

It's a design feature, my dog knows to speed up when she hears the racket, it properly confuses her if I use Shimano hubs.

All generally appreciated in my experience. Small companies doing what they do well with little fuss. What's not to like.

Anyone mentioned Ibis? The only reason I hate them is because I will likely never be able to afford one.

(I don't hate DW at all btw. But I do dislike how suspension engineering can involve reading patents more than actually designing a bike. But you play with the rules you're given, so be it.)

I'll second the likes of Banshee and Knolly.

I think in reality most brands will have their detractors - Banshee certainly used to with their use of bushes that killed frames.

I like Spesh - their attitude stinks at times but they make some cracking bikes and are often market leaders (e.g. the 05 Enduro). Their love of silly shock mounts / sizes does suck though.

This thread has made me realise that there are few brands that I feel strongly anti but plenty of others that are just 'meh' (Scott, Giant, Marin, Whyte, Merida etc).

Canfield, Cotic, Kinesis, Kona, Singular, Dialled, Salsa.

I've owned all of the above (except for Kinesis), while the bike's not always turned out to be what I was looking for (one's gotta try!) they're BS free, make the best product they can, and look after their customers. Would buy again, probably will!

I genuinely think they are fantastic because at some point people might realise that the big bike manufacturers are taking the mick with their pricing. Some of their bikes are nice as well.

Or, DW for getting US patents on previously-used stuff that doesn't stand up to 'patentable' scrutiny anywhere but in the US..

DOn't entirely disagree with you - but DW worked with Giant for ages on developing a suspension system, then they severed ties with him, and released Maestro. HMMMM.
