Have these commentators actually watched an XC race or followed the form this year?

I think he's beginning to suffer a bit now. Mind you, everyone looks wrecked, that's a really tough course.

@snotrag I agree - the women’s field generally don’t have that same physical technicality as a whole.

Best Monday morning at work for a while.

On a side note, I underestimated how much more exciting Warner and Brentjens makes it

Commentary "we are 15 minutes from a historic mountain bike Gold for UK, let's switch to canoe" shows how little respect mountain biking gets, can you imagine them cutting off Peaty to Sweden vs New Zealand table tennis?

I think MVDP might have crashed shortly after attacking Pidcock which might have unsettled him for the drop. Tom was lucky he never got wiped out by MVDP's fall.

To be fair, they switched the MTB to the main coverage on proper BBC1 right after Tom Daley was done. I appreciated watching the last bit in HD!

If you watch the crash, it looks like he rolled off a bit slower than normal.

There has been a wooden ladder under the drop (to roll it) during practice, but removed for the racing. Wonder if he rolled upto the drop a bit slow and expected to hit the wooden ladder which wasn't there...?

Oh get over yourselves. They took it off the red button and put it on BBC1 so the mainstream viewers could see it. If they'd left it on the red button as well then all the fans of table tennis or whatever would miss out on their chance for some coverage.

Mega! I have to admit I didn't think Tom would be able to pull it off at the start but I've never been happier to be wrong. I just hope he sticks with mountain biking for a bit after this.

I'm pleased that I can now wheel out my two Tom related anecdotes - shutting the door on him in the national champs and being ranked above him all this year (with screenshot!) - to unsuspecting members of the general public as well as cyclists. It's going to be a good year.

??? They switched it to the main channel. Available on every platform including streaming. If they'd just left it on iplayer that would be far worse, and showing the same thing on both channels would be silly. How is that not showing respect?

Anyway, well done Tom.
