Seems that it can shift both ways. I would like to keep my x9 shifter if possible.

Sram with word in name = compatible
Sram with number in name = not shimano compatible

I use SRAM attack for my SLX.
Same as an X7 I believer.

Nope, as bassspine says if it is named eg Attack then it is Shimano compatible. Number eg X7 then it is not.
