[#3902527]

buying a 'all mountain' type bike rather than say a XC/trail, if say you maybe ventured to the Alps once a year. General riding will be singletrack etc around the Peaks/Dales, also like the thought of doing gravity enduro, but like i say will probably go to the Alps once a year and don't want to have to start buying different bikes.

Been looking mainly at the Canyon's, especially the Nerve AM 9.0 X, which looks like a bitch of a bike!

Thanks

Not really worth buying a bigger bike which you'll use once a year in the Alps, but then have to drag around a heavier bike for the remaing 99% of the time really.

My personal view, for the type of riding you do a bike such a Lapierre Zesty/ Orange 5 etc with 140mm travel would be great, when it comes to going to the Alps/ Gravity Enduros you can adapt it, larger volume, tougher tyres, chain device, bashguard in place of outer ring etc.

The Nerve AM isn't really that much of a big All Mountain bike, in spite of the name. I've got one and it's great for UK riding in the Peaks, Lakes, North Wales etc. It actually climbs really well and munches the miles quite happily, it's not a chore to pedal it along or up. It's pretty similar to an Orange 5 in intended application I think, 140mm travel, 32mm forks, doesn't weigh a ton, etc.

If I recall correctly I think the Strive is Canyon's proper All Mountain Chuck-It-Off-An-Alp effort?

I have a 2011 Nerve AM 8.0. Kit and price-wise it would be somewhere between the 8.0X and the 9.0 in this years range I think. I like it a lot, but I should add that I really don't have much experience of full-suss bikes as this was the first FS I ever bought...

No law saying you have to bring a big bike up the alps. Get a bike that suits where you´ll ride the most.

I have an old Heckler, works great as xc and "am" - I do have different wheels tho.

something similar? Depends how rad you get in the Alps.

I'd get the bike that's best for most of your riding then maybe fit some dh tyres or wheels for when you go to the alps.
