(turning into a fixie/SS?)
just picked this up from where it's been stored for the last 4 years, tempted to have a go at this fixie lark, worth the effort? it's a Lemond Zurich frame in 853

If you don't want to I'll pay the postage and have a go...
It's worth fixing, but not worth Fixing. Unless you wear your sister's jeans and are a tw@monkey, of course. ๐
Can't really tell from the picture - but the dropouts don't look any good for a fixed.
defiantly i commute on a fixie it is a right laugh. one thing though you would need a chain tensioning device because of the vertical drop out.
*definately
the joy of posting from a phone with predictive
it's got forward facing dropouts so should be ok
hard to tell from this pic though

It's lovely, put some gears on it and wear baggies and a zen....
Or turn into a emo he/she for fashion, ๐
If you 'Fixie' ๐ก that I'm gonna come round there, pull your pants down and smack your bum.
It's a fine bike, put some gears on it
you might get away with it but i would say run it ss with a chain tensioner
and khani not all fixie riders are "emo he/she for fashion"ists i ride one because it is so much simpler ๐ฟ
just like that SCXC
Never mind the haters. I have been riding fixed for the last 5 years, day in - day out. It works for my short (9 mile each way) commute, is cheap, can be left outside day and night.
It's just a bike, perhaps people need to grow up.
if you don't fixie it im going to come round and smack you harder with a canoe paddle ๐
Soh fail face-plant, only joking honest!
I'd still put gears on it though,
time for a childish tantrum me thinks ๐

FIXIE
FIXIE it now
Well I suppose it'll still be intrinsically the same old bike so when you grow up you can use it properly ๐
n a fixie it is a right laugh. one thing though you would need a chain tensioning device
chain tensioner won't work on a fixed that's for single speed
Make sure you grind the guides and drop out off then. 8)
Grrrrr - shakes fist.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't,
It's gonna give you a sore arse one way or the other ๐
*scampers off, pockets full of oldgit's freshly scrumped apples*
๐

Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ๐ฏ
Chases SC-XC off with a cricket bat, but is thwarted by the old war wound.
๐ if you don't do it a canoe paddle will hurt more
Your making baby Jesus cry now ๐ฅ
oh dear ๐ณ
And his dads really pi**ed off!
Fixie indeed!!!
enough of the childish arguing then, ๐ก lets just agree to disagree
but fixie's are still better
If you fixie it, won't you also need a new rear hub?
Chances are it doesn't have a reverse thread for a lockring, so your sprocket will come undone.
That's really nice. Why not build it using what you've got already ie. with those wheels a simple s/s conversion kit to get it on the road and then decide if you want gears or fixed.
Please don't grind bits off............. ๐
๐ ok then 'sigh' Fixies are Better ๐ฅ
buy a cheap rear wheel, which takes a screw-on cassette. Then screw on a fixie cog. Machined!! not stamped! then lock it on with an old BB lock-ring. Gets you riding fixie for minimal cost.
probably SS first as it'll be easier, move on to Fixed if i like it
what ratio?
well, you could buy a flip-flop hub / wheel and have both
Chances are it doesn't have a reverse thread for a lockring, so your sprocket will come undone.
Not if you use threadlock and/or lots of welly to tighten it on. I've only done the latter and never had a problem.
as i said, the BB lockring will hold it well enough
I've got to say that riding fixed is a lot of fun. It takes a little getting used to, but it's very minimal. You just have to keep pedalling.
what ratio?
I'm using 46:16 which seems about right. I tend to be a bit slow away from the lights but I'll be going absurdly fast before I spin out.
That's with 170mm cranks.
You're going to fixie a bike bearing the name of a TdF winner?
Dear god what are you doing?? Chrome the forks, campag groupset, happy days!
There's a bloke round Heaton, Newcastle riding a fixie Colnago master, a piece of me dies every time i see him.
You're going to fixie a bike bearing the name of a TdF winner?
But it's not like he rode this particular bike is it? And at the end of the day, he's just a man, not a god. And this is just a bike.
Perhaps we should ask him if he would be offended. I bet he would be quite pleased that people are still doing stuff with bikes he designed a decade ago.
Double post.
You're going to fixie a bike bearing the name of a TdF winner?
what like all those merckx bikes you see on the track? heaven forbid ๐
fix it or 'fix' it or not, but please don't chop bits off, or i'll wait till you're on holiday, and put dead fish through your letter box.
All the early TdF bikes were fixies. You are just being true to the roots man!
