I've got a horrible creak from my rear wheel. It's quite metalic, happening at certain times only under load (I can't replicate it on the stand) and definitely not the BB.
So far I've had the cassette off, checked and reinstalled nice and tight, had the spokes tightened (needed it anyway, checked the chain and swapped the QR. Still doing it.
Is there any way of telling if its the axle without pulling the hub apart?
Try another rear wheel first, before pulling the hub apart.
Tried greasing the dropouts? I had a very bad creak and it was as simple as that!
Look above the spoke holes on the hub......can crack above because they are not drilled very deep down the flange
Outer bearing on the freehub....gets more solvents...quite well sealed but likely to go grungy first
hope proII - pull it apart, its really quite easy.
cassette off
ends off
freehub off
video on the hope website to demonstrate.
I thought the axle problem was only in 12mm guise, when using a Maxle-Lite.
are you?
nope not maxle...relief if that's not the problem and I've had a good look over the frame (only just had the rear triangle replaced on warranty!).
Will try another wheel from a mate - good call.
It's really easy to pop the hub off, it may just be a broken spring - about £5 for a set of 4 I think.
Have a look at Foxy's Hope Pro 2 service instruction:

Hope ProII 12mm thru-axles have a tendency to snap when used with a Maxle Light. If you haven't got a 12mm thru/Maxle Light you're probably OK.
