Road bike, figure that a good quality polish will help to keep it cleaner. Can't foresee any issues, but thought I'd ask before buffing!

Yep, you'll be fine. There's a polish made by Muc-Off, think it's called Miracle Shine, which is designed for carbon, and it's amazing, makes frames and bits look like new again!
