Hmmm too many.
I can no longer negotiate a path through the garage.
1x 29er FS
1x 29er HT
1x DH
1x AM FS
1x 26er FS
1x 26er HT
1x Cross
1x Hack road bike
1x Road race bike
1x Training road bike
plus a motorbike.
do we have to include motorcycles adn bikes we have stashed elsewhere?
Christ! i'm running out of fingers, but thats for me, wife and three kids... still......
room for one more!!!!!! 😀
3 main bikes at the moment:
Mountain
Road
Inbetweener/Commuter
Have another one sat in bits at the corner of the room, still deciding what to do with it, and have been for about 4 years...
Also got my old BMX in bits, needing some tlc, which I was gonna fix up for my son, but given his lack of input I might have to reclaim it for myself (if he asks nicely I'll let him borrow it 😛 )
All of the above probably cost less than a lot of peoples individual bikes.
I remember that picture of sheldon's basement, after he died.
Can anyone find it?
I tried but my google is weak.
we should have a poll.on how many bikes.
grant petersen says 6.or 8.
I think 5 is about right.3 is understandable even to non cyclists.
double digits start to be a problem.(includes me)
maintenance,more than anything,is a chore.
spares can be,but you can standardize quite a bit.disadvantage is that you'll end up stuck in a time bubble.(no bad thing,as long as it works)
any thoughts?
pretty sure i can keep it pinned at 3
commuter, hardtail, full suss
but sometimes i want a real road bike, which i can mentally argue down to an audax/tourer/cx (guards/rack) which could replace my commuter, but im happy that the commuter is SS, except the frame is knackered and for what i will spend on a SS frame, i could buy a whole bike, but then i could keep the commuter which is still gonna be wrecked AND i would be up to 4 bikes again.
why did you have to ask
2 working with a 3rd missing some parts.
Road bike
29er HT
29er FS without drive train.
I've just stayed on the HT this year. I keep thinking of a winter road bike but just can't justify it.
160mm fs alps bike
120mm fs trail bike
100mm hardtail
road bike
I'm banned from owning anymore but I really need a time trial bike in my life...
I buy a new one every time this question gets asked on STW.Just checked, I currently have 264 bikes...
[giggles]
Answer of the day!... 😀
Edit..four and a bit....
Four:
29er hardtail
29er full susser
Road bike
Singlespeed urban/commuter
If I had the space and could justify the spend I'd also have a steel winter road bike, a Langster and probably a fat bike too. That's before getting into the nice-to-look-at-but-not-sure-how-much-I'd-use-it category, which would mean vintage Italian road bike and Calfee bamboo mountain bike.
3
Geared steel rigid 29er - my main "trail" bike
Rigid steel singlespeed - winter offroader and year round commuter
Oldish alu hardtail -currently built up as geared rigid 26er with slicks - mainly used for child seat duties and v. occasional longer road rides
Third one is a bit redundant really. Would ideally like to replace it with a steel cross bike.
Don't really see the point of more as I barely have time to ride the ones I've got.

For me:
Ti29
Scandal
Pompino
Pompetamine
Inbred luggage bike
SS commuter
Brompton
For her:
Planet X Pro Carbon
Pompino
456
For them:
Islabikes Rohan
Islabikes Cnoc.
=12
My only urge for n+1 is for a Monster cross based on Pompetamine geometry. But that's not going to happen.
I refer you to this thread of wisdom: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/the-evil-profit-motive
Now start sharing them out evenly please.
8 At the moment.
I work on ths S minus 1 principle. 9 appears to be S
How about how often do you change bikes. How many bikes have you bought / sold in the last two / three years?
Holy crap, I'm not that bad after all:
Audax/commuter bike (sensible road bike w/guards and hub dynamo)
Fixed commuter/winter bike
Road/TT bike (lightweight 'summer' bike with bars changed according to discipline)
Heavy Duty Tourer - lives in storage seeing as it's for the holidays only
Brompton
Hardtail bitsa MTB
Old Kona Lavadome in pieces ready to be built up old skool rigid
69er rigid ss for local and commuting
140mm fe for big days out
Although another 29er may be on th cards with the 69er getting a fat front
At the moment I've got
140mm FS
140mm HT
120mm HT Singlespeed
Roadbike
Due to the small size of my garage, I've just sold my motorbike to give me extra space in the garage and some extra MTB funds!
Only 1 at the moment and I can't ride that 🙁
Enough parts to build 2 more, except for the frames.
My mates seem to need 6-7 bikes to do the same amount/type of riding i do on 2:
Fixed gear road
Full suspension MTB.
Oh, and people that refer to their 'stable'.. they are for keeping horses in, not bikes. 😉
7
XCish hardtail
FRish hardtail
SS that hasn't been ridden in the last 18 months.
7" travel FS
Roadie
Fixie (hangover from the London commuting days)
Brompton (new commuter - something of a necessary evil
Plus a couple of old frames floating around the place.
Want a more trail friendly full sus at the mo.
I'm up to 4 now. Road bike, 180mm FS, 140mm HT and 24" SS jump bike. Quite happy and have little overlap but would like a lighter full suss
This again?
But if I must:
Five:
1x DH FS bike
1X 4" forked HT: Dropper equiped, 2x9 geared...
1x Fully rigid SS
1x BMX
1x Road bike (primarily for commuting)
I know how awfully Bourgeois’ I am...
5 but 2 need to get sold asap
29er ht 9 speed
26er ht ss
Cx/commute/hack ss
To go...
First propper mtb '96 p7 now ss
Road bike litespeed
Sold fs earlier in the year to buy 29er + commuter
Own:
Fixed road bike for commuting (used daily)
Ti Road bike for nice rides (used weekly)
29er rigid SS (used weekly)
Folding Airnimal Rhino (used hardly at all)
Kiddyback tandem (off to a charity)
Adult tandem (off to a charity)
Want:
Carbon road bike for training/race/crashing duties
FS MTB
Brompton (sold mine a few years ago and still miss it)
Road tandem (for fast fun with son)
Nice to have:
Paperbike town bike
Others in household
BMX
KMX
Road bikes for kids
MTBs for kids
Dutch ladies bike
Dawes Hybrid
Track bike for road
24 fully functional bikes.
9 are mine, one is my GFs and 14 are the kids' (I bought/built all of them so I suppose they all kinda belong to me)
1 bike, 3 wheels.
I have a 29er HT which usually runs a SS rear or an alfine 8 when I want to gear up for road or smooth, flat trails. Both have the same sprocket size so are an easy swap. Two bikes for the space of one 🙂
Hardtail with discs
Hardtail with cantis
Rigid geared
Rigid single speed
Mtb tandem
TT bike
Road race
Audax
CX 1
CX 2 (Spare)
Fixed road bike with guards
Fixed TT bike
Fixed hill climb bike
Tandem trike
I have 1...no need for any more. 1 that gets used. I also have a Pace RC 200 F8 but that hangs in the garage for sentimental reasons.
One long-travel steel hardtail for everything - big long all-dayers, trail centres, jumps, I've raced it, I'd take it to the Alps (with some bigger rotors), the Dales, Wales, everywhere.
Although I have borrowed road bikes for BHF rides and the like.
I just like it. And I have a small shed.
3 at the present minute though might be down to 2 after tonight then back to 3 after I pick up a Giant Defy 2 tommorow. Then hopefully down to 2 when I sell my Hardtail.
1 x full suss 1 x Road bike is all I really need.
I have 3-
A 94 Univega Alpina that I've SS'd, ride that to work, blast around the roads.
My Pitch, which feels like too much bike sometimes.
My Kula, was built as a SS to keep wear of the Pitch, easier maintenance too. However it feels more fun to ride a lot of the time. Just converted it to 1x9 for the Kielder.
Toying with using the Pitch as a donor for a c456...
1 sunday bmx 24", which really like, use 1-2 times a week
Hack bike for getting to my job
Scott voltage , really cool bike - used it for bike park vacations
Rigid singlespeed mtb 26" - needs a new frame, use 2 times a week.
My old bmx 24" - going to sell..
Old rigid 26" geared mtb - for rain and snow when i cant ride up the hills singlespeed
Would like to try a 29" ss rigid and a fatbike..
Crikey...
Well, I've only got three - a Camber, a Wolf Ridge and a P7. My Enduro has just been retired, so the frame is sat on the mantelpiece.
Mrs PJM has a 2008 Rock Springs, which I've built her, stepson 2 has a Merlin Malt 1, which I've also built. There's a Spesh Hardrock and two Viper Crazy Boy hardtails in the garage which the kids have grown out of.
I daren't count them.
4 here...
Cube Frittz for the Alps
Trek FuelEx9 for local trails
Orange Crush for winter
Boardman Team Carbon for my lycra perversion.
The Cube is up for sale as im gone major roadie and if i go back to the Alps it'll be to bag some of the big road climbs...
Ok
2 cx bikes
2 rigid 26 hard tails
1 29er hardtail.
1 full suz all mountain thingy
1 steel road bike
1 Italian campagnolo bling road bike
And more planned!
Specialized Enduro
Giant Anthem
A 456, made up of bits I've upgraded from
And a road bike
All acquired in the last 12 months
🙂
1 Indyfab Ti delux 26" SS Rigid
2.Singular Hummingbird 26" SS Maverick sc32
3.Airbourne Black Widow 26" Geared Maverick sc32
4.Canyon Nerve 26" Geared
5.Sunn Enduro 26" SS Rigid
6.Orange P7 26" Geared Maverick sc32 trailer bike
7.Sabbath Ti September Commute/touring bike
8 TBC 🙂
Running out of space 😥
Recently rationalised down to 2, a long travel steel HT and a road bike, but then gone temporarily back up to 3 as couldn't resist a Cannondale Supersix 105 at sale prices.
Plan is to go back to 2 once I get round to cleaning up and selling my old road bike.
Well, you lot are show offs.
I have my trusty P7... and nothing else. Though I might buy a rigid fork and some wheels to singlespeed it over winter. Does that count as 2 bikes?
Oh, and I have my stolen/recovered Pipedream frame in the loft. She never felt the same after being ragged by some scallys.
Whyte 19 SS(Alloy)
Whyte 19 Race (Carbon seat stays)
Whyte 19 SS Ti
Whyte E5
(all four with Maverick SC32's)
Orbea igorre CX bike
Willier Izoard (not the XP)
I also have my sons 2011 Marin East Peak XC8 if I'm stuck.
This time last year I decided I was going to downsize from a DH bike and a hardtail to one bike for everything. And I did. For a while.
I now have
A 160mm FS (the one bike for everything)
A SS 120mm dj bike (the original hardtail from above, rebuilt in different form)
A road bike (errmmm)
Just downsized but it's creeping back up;
ti456
Prophet
Titus X
Kona Dew deluxe
& a stripped Inbred frame
Do like the look of the cheap Nukeproof Mega's at the moment. And the Titus El Guapo. CRC have cheap Stinky six frames as well. And I've wanted a Kaffenback or Pompino for a while which are on offer.
Where'd I put my credit card.... 😆
Two years ago I had 4 bikes and decided I really didn't need them all so I got rid of the single speed and the road/commuter bike, leaving me with a full sus and a cx bike that I used as a commuter.
Since then I have bought - another single speed and another road bike so I am back where I started 😳
Currently:
Nicolai Helius CC
Kona Hahanna rigid single speed
Genesis Croix De Fer
Cannondale Caad8 8
i suppose i could be happy with 8 bikes
1 hardtail - light enough to race xc at a push
1 singlespeed
1 bouncy xc bike
1 daft bouncy AM bike
my equilibrium for sunday best
a winter hack road bike
a commuter - suitable for wheelie practise
a bmx
i really think that would be enough...
N=N=1 for me
Short travel F/S for everything, including the daily (road) commute. Bit heavy up the big hill coming home but I figure it's good for my muscles.
