[#3892255]

Popped into the Pound Shop earlier in the week for some packing tape.

Noticed they had 26 x 2.125 tubes for unsurprisingly ..... £1.

Schrader only and listed as being 215g. Weighed two of mine and they are much closer to 200g.

Seems a good deal of a £1.

I have no idea though is this is a good weight.

They're probably made in the same places as most more expensive ones BUT sometimes cheap tubes can be quite variable in thickness meaning there are weak points. Easiest way to check is to inflate the tube alone (eg not in a tyre) and see how even a shape it is - if there are massive bulges then there are significantly thinner areas and you may find them more prone to punctures.

Decathlon tubes ar 2 for £4 and weigh in at 180g (no claims, car valve).
Michelin Latex is £12 and approx 120g (no claim).
Conti Supersonic is £12 and 98g (claims 100g).
Maxxis Fly is £12 and 83g (no claim, just 0.45mm thick).
Schwalbe XXlight is £8 and 114g (claims 95g...in their dreams).

All 26" MTB tubes, but different widths and valves.

200 is about average, unless you want a paper thin tube, or a stupid DH one.

I like the 100g Contis and the 100g Tioga Superlights (can't get Tiogas in the UK any more) 200g does seem rather heavy.
Tried a pair of really light Maxxis ones, sub-60g IIRC. Over-inflated one and blew it up using a 4" mini-pump (about 40psi!) As my mate said, "I've seen jonnies with thicker rubber than that!"
However, I also have some 400g Noians in the big bike, 3 years so far and never punctured (with Minions too)

"Much closer" to 200g? Even I'd not say 10% away is a lot!

As said, it's about average, there are lighter alternatives.

i had a mammoth tube repair session, and decided to weigh each tube, and write the weight by the valve which met the scorn of my riding mates 😳 despite one of them spending 3 figures to drop a few grammes off a bivvying tent set up 🙄 . 200gm is pretty typical for a 2.1. Our collection ranges from maxxis flyweights (bit less than 100grm) which munqe chick happily rides on (even in her full sus in Kerala), to some freeride tube I bought in the alps which is ~300grms.

Have some Continental lightish inners which are 130g each. They puncture no worse than my normal heavier inner tubes - during singletrack rding if an inner is going to puncture, its going to pucture regardless within reason.
