On a scale of 1-10 how 'pimp' is your bike

1 - halfords BSO
2-3 - Would make an apperance in the MBR Dirty Dozen test.
4-5 - An oldie but goodie
6-7 - Everythig is good, maybe a token XTR mech youve had since 1998.
8 - Yove been suckered in and have a matching thompson stem and post, but evreything else is whater you fancied at the time.
9 - Tastefull, you've limited it to white, black and one other colour, you feel guilty that is only got an XT front mech.
10 - Not content with thompson youve gone for hope evrything, and if hope don't make it youve found someone who does in the same colour. TBH your bike makes your friends feel a little queezey.
11+ Your bike is an object of desire, if its not CNC'd to withign an inch of its life you dont want to kow about it and XTR was just too cheep. Your bike is horrible to ride, but you dont care because it cost more than your boss' porche and probbably less than his lunch , and that's all that matters.

I just like riding mine. These things really don't entertain my mind.

Mine (both) are about 12 on your scale, due to 4 little letters: E, I, T and Y. Not in that order though...

Humm, 9 as I've seen pimpier bikes although in no way more functional. However, the bike wants for nothing and there's nothing on there I could upgrade that would improve function over what's on there now.

Sam,

What's happening about my disc brakes, any news?

Matt.

My Epic is possibly as high as a 9 (although it's an LX front mech), although the others range from 4 to 8.

Both of mine are colour co-ordinated to within an inch of their lives, right down to the zip ties and valve caps ๐Ÿ˜ณ but as far as pimpery for the sake of it is concerned, then no . . . one has an SLX mech and the latest build has 7 speed Alivio ๐Ÿ˜› . . . both work flawlessly. Not bothered about super-pimp componentry or finishing kit so long as it all matches and everything is dialled.

a 9 on your scale. Although I'm not guilty about the XT front mech.

I like this very much, I think we should apply it to every garden bike shot

Er, really? Hope nice than Thompson? Hope is like Pace and Orange and every other British MTB brand (except Middleburn which makes amazing stuff). Everyone spunks their load over their kit because the last one to do so has to lick everyone elses spunk off. Consequently no one dares not spunk over their stuff and everyone agrees it's monkey's nuts when really it's just terribly average.

I've been a complete victim in the past, however I have a functionality threshold, anything beyond which is mere showing off. That threshold is X9/XT.

My Rock Springs would be an 8. My Enduro would be a 7, based on the fact it's missing wheels (soon to be Pro II in blue if you please) but is hamstrung by a Deore front mech.

My missus's Merlin Malt 1 is SLX all round with Pike coils set to 100mm... Stepson #1 has a Spesh Hardrock with Deore, Rockshox Dart 3s and Avid Juicy brakes. The latter are built from old kit I've upgraded from.

It was a reference to the anodising on some bikes, a few bits is tasefull/decorative, others take it to early 90's levels!

In that case it's 11 here. My Enduro was a slave to blue ano Hope kit and my Marin is headed the same way.

All of mine are probably about 11 with exception to the SS Inbred which would be a 3.

11+ on your scale, but then your scale is distinctly dodgy - the assumption seemingly that anything more expensive than Hope/Thomson (note spelling) is less functional and can't be tasteful. OK so maybe gold on black isn't that tasteful, but it is fairly subtle.

To be honest, if you can't spell appearance, everything, you've, whatever, tasteful, within, know, Porsche, probably and cheap - all within one paragraph - I'm not really interested in your values.
Score: -100

1st: Hardrock, Saint Brakes, Revs, basic kit elsewhere -probs about a 4-5

2nd: It's a Scott Octane...from 1998 with old (early Millenium kit, it had a set of 1998 Hope E4 brakes until a month ago) 2
