Alright guys.
Just built up a socom after scouring ebay and pinkbike for months...
Socom Frame (m)
DHX5 500 x 3.25
Boxxer WC
Full saint kit
Hope v2s
Hope Pro II / Mavic 729s
Any tips on suspension set up?
I have been playing around with the rebound and pressure levels in the forks and rear shock but can't decide exactly how I want them!
Have taken the high and low speed compression right off the forks, maybe play with them to fine tune the forks once I have the pressure right. I weigh just over 13st.
Cheers ๐
Start with getting the sag levels right, with it being a DH bike, you should be aiming around the 35% mark.
Wind all the adjusters off on both the forks and the shock, go do some runs on a track you can ride repeatedly. See how it feels, then start slowly adding and feeling the difference. If you can, use a moto timer to give you an idea on what feels fastest vs what is fastest.
Rebound as slow as you can without it packing down on repeated hits.
At 13st, that rear spring is way to heavy for your weight on that bike. Having previously owned a Socom & being slighly lighter than yourself, you should be looking for a 400lbs rear spring.
Looking back, it was a bit of a pig of a bike to set up, being relatively short & steep (in DH terms) I could never get it to not feel like a long travel AM bike, an ARC headset helped when my Mrs inherited my old one, but I still couldn't get on with it.
Yeah was a little unsure on the spring size myself, my weight fluctuates a lot depending on how much i train, so I can go up to about 14st in a couple of months, so would rather be on the larger size. I will maybe try a 400 or a 450 spring.
Thanks for your help ๐ ... any more suggestions welcome.
I talked to Mojo and TF about spring weight, both said different. If its your first big bike do expect it to feel a bit soft. I overwound the preload on mine as I wasnt used to all the travel and suppility. Bought some Totems the other week for it, set the sag and went riding- Kept messing with hi/low, I have no idea what is better, but you can tell when you get it wrong.
It's my second DH bike, but never really messed about with the suspension on my old one, it always just felt 'OK'.
I will have a play around next week and see what comes of it.
Have to take to Mrs to Dublin this weekend ... no riding for me. Booooo ๐
Cheers guys.
