Anyone tried the Intend Stiffmaster enough to form an opinion?

I find it hard to believe that a steere within a headtube clamped by a stem and a crown could flex enough that a mortal could notice.

I'm currently trying to get my head around how the play is taken out of the deep groove bearing that's used in there. The thrust bearing makes sense but the one underneath bothers me.
I can't see how it accommodates tolerance in the steerer tube diameter.

Just jam a section of broom handle down the steerer like the roadies used to.
