Having read distressing thread about the poor chap who had the mojo HD and Demo pinched from his garage it got me thinking about insurance.
If you purchase a bike as a load of parts and build it up (and have receipts for all the parts), then if it gets pinched can you claim for all the constituent parts, hence avoiding the limit on the bike as a single item? Or is there typically some weasel like clause in policies to cover this?
I doubt it... unless you take the bike apart and store it at home in its parts... It's a bike otherwise.
Just change insurers to get rid of the arbitrary max bike prices that some insurers stick in.
It's a bit of a hypothetical question. Checked my direct line policy and it's got a limit of 2k on any single item (including bikes.) None of my bikes would be worth more than that now, unless I was going new for old, so not too bothered. Could well put me off getting a new super expensive bike though.
