[#3533966]

So I had my bikes stolen over new years, have spoken to the insurance company today and they have offered a settlement and wanted to gauge peoples response and what I should do going forward.

The amount isn't what I'm questioning but the methods, I was presuming that they would re reimburse me via bank transfer/cheque. They have said that I have an amount to spend at a shop called Wheelies.

I have had a look and it doesn't really compare to what has been stolen,

Custom Santa Cruz Chameleon, hope wheels & brakes, pace forks ....

Wondering what I can do any help advice welcomed????

unless the shop can provide direct replacements (you say they can't) you are entitled to cash/ shop elsewhere.

We claimed a few years ago for a frame that was dinted. Think it was Wheelies that we had to use but after talking to them they allowed me to get a quote from Stif for a Chameleon frame and even paid for the build up. I just paid Stif for it and sent the invoice to them for reimbursement

I know people who have, although sometimes the insurance company will reduce the value if you don't use wheelies (typically 10-15%) as they get savings from them as well.

They'll want you to go through Wheelies as they'll get a discount there and if Wheelies can supply but you want to source elsewhere they should send you a cheque for the amount they'd pay at Wheelies (so less than the RRP). However if Wheelies can't supply then the insurer should send you a cheque for the full RRP of the replacement. This is assuming it's a new for old policy ofc...

I just spoke to them again, they have said that when i speak to wheelies I need to outline the build up of the bike etc and then let them decide what they would like to do, he did say that in some cases they do a cash settlement as its easier ..... so have to wait and see

cheers for the help people
