Took the plunge and splashed out on some new rubber, fitted a set of 2.2 BC Rubber Queens today and really impressed with them - but I got wondering about the tubes as a lot of pictures of bikes running them seem to be a lot fatter!
Could just be other man's grass syndrome, but I was wondering what difference inner tube size made to the overall tyre performance? Don't have a clue about rubber.... I just point it on cheapo tyres and hold on normally ๐ I've got spesh tubes in there now which are sized up 2.0-2.2, on Mavic XM719. What's going to alter if I run them with a fatter tube?
Nothing, apart from adding a few grams and when a thorn goes in it ~may~ deflate a little slower as it's not as stretched. So nothing to worry about. I've used thinner tubes than that in RQ2.2 and 2.4s, as well as 26" tubes in 29" tyres etc.
