Replacing the cables on my road bike (changing from white to black) and current setup has the inline adjusters.

Is it neceesary for me to fit them on the new cables?

I had them on my old road bike and never had to use them.

if your gear set-up doesn't have adjusters on the mechs (well, the rear mech really) then they're handy

You want them somewhere in the system. Without is an absolute bugger!

I don't run them, the rear mech has it's own adjuster and i set the front one up by pulling more cable under the clamp when it needs it.
Inlines only realy needed in racing because you don't know if a spare wheel someone gives you if you puncture is going to index properly.
