Hey,

just looking for a replacement seat post for my old gt avalanche as the current one keeps slipping and is pretty much a cheap bit of crap.

Sourced a nice hope clamp, but need a post in either black, white or blue.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Rob

My thoughts re: seatposts

If you can afford a dropper, get one
If you don't want a dropper, get a Thomson (it'll last forever and you'll be glad you did)
If you can't afford that, get the cheapest one available, there doesn't really seem to be any desirable middle ground IME. On one do perfectly serviceable seatposts for cheap.

"get a Thomson (it'll last forever and you'll be glad you did"
Mine wore out fairly quickly
I think the machined, ie not smooth surface did it no favours in longevity

Am now on a Ritchey WCS in that bike. Plenty light enough (230g?) and I managed to get it for £25

Second the on- one twefty as good, and a Thomson that wore then bent quickly...

Shimano Pro Koryak. Bit diddly to fit seat to and seat can slip. Slipping cured by removing black coating.
Got the bars & stem as well.
Used Race Face for years but kept splitting the post down the back where seat clamp is inserted into tube 🙄

For general XC riding / trail;

I've had one for the past year and a half. Usually put around 100 miles a week on the bike. Its taken some abuse.

Stylish?! It's a seatpost for gawd's sake.

Whatever was the cheapest in the right size would get my money. If you're not looking for a dropper obviously.

I've got a RF Turbine that I got cheap from one of the big online shops (possibly Merlin). It's very good, though as above, it's a seatpost and thus not all that exciting.
