If i'm running gears on a slot dropout frame, do i need a chain tug tensioner on the drive side?
Thanks

You don't need one, but it'll help quite a lot for repositioning the wheel in the same place each time.

no you just push it all the way forward in the dropouts. My brother has done this for a few months with zero problems.
