[#806047]

Im 99.9% sure Im getting a 456 now. It was a toss up between the summer season but I think the standard 456 seems the better all round bike for me.

Im going to be jumping / dhing / short xcing 10-30 odd miles so I want something that can get me high enough with my 410mm post but is small enough to be able to chuck around ect.. Im 5ft11 and normally in a xc frame I'd have probobly got the 18" but I think they look too big to suit my needs... just wondering if anyone has a 16" whos 5ft11 and thinks its all gravy?

The nice guy at on one said 16" is what he'd suggest but I thought it doesnt hurt to ask more peoples?

I have ridden my sons 16in , Im a tad under 6ft and its fine. I ride an 18 and it feels the same. You may need a very long seat post though.

perfect, 410mm thomson should do the job then? does it feel like a long bike or does it feel like you can get over it comfortably and chuck it around in some rough situations?

thanks knottie

Top tube length is hardly any shorter on the 16" so I would get that if you are likely to do any jumping - get a 410mm Thomson post though

I'll be using a 50mm stem so it does sound good for the 16" then 😀

both sizes are great for me to ride and they just want to GO when pointed downhill.

I'm just over 5'10" and ride an 18" frame. Inseam is about 31" but my Gibbon-style arms mean I find a 100mm stem best for me.

im 5 10 and ride a 16 with 410mm on one post and a 70mm stem fits good for chucking around a bit but also great on all day xc

6ft 4" ride a 20" no probs. 16 to 18 I think for you.

5'8" on a good day and ride a 16. Works fine for me.

5'10" with long legs (33") and I ride the 18" with a short stem. I've minced the odd downhill course and done the Selkirk Merida on it.

I'd recommend looking at the geometry statistics between the two. They're on the site somewhere. You get more standover on the 16" but on my 18" I have more than enough. Probably nearly 6" from the saddle at it's lowest point to my crown jewels. Probably another 2" to the top tube.

It is only fractionally longer (about 1/2" IIRC). I'd recommend the 18" and a short stem.

I'm 6' and got an 18" with a 70 mm stem. I love it but think a 16" would be more suitable for chucking around and lots of jumps.
