I have just received an old inbred from around 2006 with the hose/cable guides on top of the top tube, but there are no hose guides on the seat stays, apart from using zip ties what other options do I have?

Mine has little half guides for zip ties down the left seat stay, but my cable guides are under the top tube. (Sorry, not a very helpful post)

I have an inbred the same as you describe. I wrapped the brake house around the seat stay in a spiral and used a single small cable tie near the seat tube I think. I'm about to go and get on it, so I'll take a proper look to remind myself.

Double zip ties can look quite neat if you trim the end off flush.

I like the idea of spiral wrapping

Stick on cable guides? Used them on a few bikes now, seem to work fine. If the look bothers you, grab some nail polish that matches the colour of the frame and paint the pads.
