I have to take my Fulcrum Racing 5 rear wheel to a non-english speaking Italian cycle mechanic tomorrow to get the pawl spring replaced 🙄 and to see how much a bearing replacement job would cost. My Italian is as existent as the tools I have with me to do the job (i.e. an oily rag)
I have the following lined up:
"Pawl Spring" = "Molla del dentarello"
"Bearing" = "Cuscinetto"
"Replace" = "Sostituisca"
Can anyone confirm I have this correct, and any advice on what else I should say?
("my hovercraft is full of eels" is not really what I'm after, it may get me a discount I suppose, providing he's a fan.......)
Muchly ta,
Ben
I have an italian phrasebook from the '60s somewhere.
No word of a lie, it has the following phrases:
At the hairdresser's: "Just a trim, please, I haven't much time."
At the beauty parlour: "Could you show me this season's nail colours, please?"
And the very best of all,
Emergencies: "Officer! There is a man molesting women on the seafront!"
Can't help you with the bike stuff, though, sorry.
You could try going on Campag's site and getting google to translate it for you?
yeah. babel fish has given me what I have so far....
Campag site is all codes and no description. 🙁
ben
"Baggio, costacurta"
You could go and ask him for a new bike, say a singlespeed cyclocross bike.
Mi piacerebbe un pompino
Per favore, puoi sostituire la mia ...[insert babelfished name of bike part/possible colloquial Italian nickname for butt plug]? Quanto costa?
Grazie...

LOL - yeah the pompino reference came up a couple of weeks ago when the receptionist of the hotel I stay in offered me one (she was winding her mate up by asking me things she didn't think I would understand). I've never been more thankful a knowledge of bike names. Unfortunately all I got was a very embarrased receptionist hiding from me and her mate creased up in the corner. Apparently she thought there was no english translation??!!
Many thanks StefMcDef - I thought there'd be some sensible response out there somewhere. Now babel fish butt plug........
Oops - double post. I think my hands are shaking too much at the memory of being offered a single speed bike.
il mio hovercraft è pieno di anguille. It's colloquial for, "Please replace my pawl spring"
🙂 HTH
How about a diagramme of the offending part?
